Fucoidan and Helicobacter Pylori

October 1, 2019

In this blog, I will discuss further about fucoidan and helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).

The major causes of H. pylori infection is not clear. However, if the surrounding environment has poor hygiene and is often contaminated, it is believed that H. pylori in the excreta can cause contamination of drinking water and food. These contaminations are often spread through well water and other infections. However, there is very little or no H. pylori bacteria in saliva. So, there is no report that the infection by spread or passed through dishes or kissing.

When infected by H. pylori, the bacteria live in the stomach lining. It causes inflammation and also gastritis. Actually, the stomach has a layer of mucus that is designed to protect it from stomach acid, but H. pylori is attached to the mucous lining. It leaves part of the stomach exposed to acid. The bacteria and the acid together can irritate the stomach, and they can cause ulcers, gastritis or even stomach cancer.

Thus, I think people must consider and take remedies to get rid of H. pylori. There are two ways to get rid of H. pylori: medications and natural remedy. One is using medication that is two or more combination of antibiotics such as amoxicillin, tetracycline, metronidazole and clarithromycin. Also, the doctor may add proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole, lansoprazole to stop acid production in the stomach. However, these medications have side effects such as diarrhea, constipation, headache, vomiting, stomach pain and dry mouth.

In order to avoid these side effects of medication, I would like to recommend using natural remedy such as fucoidan. Fucoidan is the only remedy without any side effect. According to Hideyuki Shibata et al., he and his co-researchers examined porcine gastric mucin under pH2.0 and 4.0 with fucoidan. As per the result, fucoidan inhibited the H. pylori attachment to porcine gastric mucin. Thus fucoidan might be a useful dietary factor for anti-H pylori infection and would be leading to reduction in the risk of gastric cancer.

I recall that I have already explained “Fucoidan and Stomach cancer” in the previous blog. In addition to the way avoid infecting H. pylori. 1) Always wash your hand after using bathroom. 2) eat or drink from a clean and safe source only.
